Description:
210 Hospital Street Richmond, Virginia 37º33'9" N, 77º25'51" W The original intention was that this building, constructed in 1860-1861, would serve as an almshouse, but the outbreak of the Civil War ushered in its use as a hospital. After the war it did become housing for the poor and it continues to this day to provide apartments for low-income people. It is listed in the 1891 Richmond city directory as "City Almshouse," in 1920 as "City Home." At right is the western edge of Hebrew Cemetery.
