- 900 block W. Broad Street Richmond, Virginia 37º33'2" N, 77º27'1" W Richmond claims the first electric street car system in the world, running from 1888 until 1948. Now the Greater Richmond Transit Company is building a Bus Rapid Transit system called Pulse over some of those same trolley car streets. The BRT route will run 7.6 miles, from Rockett's Landing in the east to Willow Lawn shopping center in the west. Pictured here is the Virginia Commonwealth University/Virginia Union University station. This station and several others will not be curbside, but are located in the middle of the street.
