(inherited from collection) - Description:
- and Redeemer Anglican Church 2715 Grove Avenue Richmond, Virginia built in 1914 37º33'17" N, 77º28'27" W I was a bit surprised to see a Jewish synagogue and an Anglican church sharing the same building. My surprise was compounded when I learned that this is a messianic Jewish group, meaning in their words that "Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah of Israel." I didn't know there was such a group, but the synagogue's website states that there are over 500 Messianic synagogues in the world. There's more: the synagogue building was built in 1914 as Grace Baptist Church. From the 1940s through the 1970s it was home to an Orthodox synagogue, Keneseth Beth Israel. Tikvat Israel Congregation bought the building in 1990.
