(inherited from collection) - Description:
- Main Library 101 E. Franklin Street Richmond, Virginia 37º32'35" N, 77º26'34" W Richmond opened its first public library in 1924 in the former home of Lewis Ginter at 901 W. Franklin Street. In 1925 Sallie May Dooley left $500,000 to the city for a library to be named in memory of her husband, Major James H. Dooley. That library was completed in 1930 and duly named Dooley Library. The Dooley Library is still here: it is now the Dooley Wing, encapsulated in the right-hand end of the building pictured here, which was completed in 1972.
