Richmond, Virginia
(inherited from collection) - Description:
- 201 W. Broad Street Richmond, Virginia Opened September 2015 37º32'48" N, 77º26'38" W This building was designed by the architectural firm Starrett & van Vleck in 1916, the same firm that designed New York City's Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue stores. The local associate firm was Carneal & Johnston, the company that did Richmond's Dairy Company Building. The building pictured opened as the J.B. Mosby and Co. dry goods store, but it later became the first Sears and Roebuck in Richmond. Sears moved from here to 312 E. Broad in the mid-1930s. The Ukrop family, of yesteryear's grocery chain of the same name, opened this as a hotel in September 2015. There's a bar on the rooftop that has a splendid view up and down Broad Street.
