Gordon E. Strause Photograph Collection

The collection was compiled by Gordon E. Strause, of Richmond, Virginia. He was the son of Isadore Strause (Richmond) and Ada Eisfeld Strause Nelson (Des Moines, Iowa); Isadore Strause died in 1916 and Ada married Leon M. Nelson, Sr., a widower from Richmond, Virginia with two sons, Leon M. Nelson, Jr. and Nathan H. Nelson in 1917. Ada, Isadore and Leon all came from Jewish German-American families. Gordon E. Strause was involved in Richmond commercial real estate and founded his own firm, Gordon E. Strause, Inc. He worked primarily with properties on the Broad and Grace Street retail corridor.
