The photo was taken from an elevated position on Gamble’s Hill, looking southeast towards the Armory, which was located between 4th and 6th streets, south of the canal. It’s hard to say from where specifically on the hill the photo was taken—the photo is at a more oblique angle and likely from further west than a similar, previously-georeferenced photo, which guided the positioning of this one.
