- 1012 Lafayette Street Richmond, Virginia opened for business 2011 37º34'3" N, 77º29'11" W "Stella," is Stella Dikos. Her late husband, Stavros "Steve" Dikos, opened Richmond's original Village Cafe in 1956. In 1983 they sold the Village Cafe and opened the first Stella's in the same immediate neighborhood. After operating there for 12 years they closed Stella's and Mr. Dikos retired, but in 1998 Stella and her daughter opened a new Stella's on Main Street, staying there until 2005 when they sold that restaurant but kept the name for themselves. In 2011 Mr. Dikos passed away just weeks before this Lafayette Street location opened. Stella and her family continue to be active in the Richmond restaurant business. (My apology for the car taking center stage. Maybe after some years people will see it and say, "Look at that old car!") PS The food here is excellent. The "small plates" are NOT small.
