- eastern entrance north of intersection of E. Franklin & N. 31st Streets 37º31'37" N, 77º24'55" W Behind the home at 3012 E. Franklin Street, on land owned by CSX, is a deep ravine that is trashy and over-grown, and that bottoms out in water-logged soil. The eastern (sometimes called southern) entrance to the Church Hill tunnel is located in this ravine. There was a petition as recently as 2014 to create a memorial park at this entrance, but no action was taken. The soil above the Church Hill tunnel remains unstable and to this day occasionally causes problems to structures above ground. Under no circumstances should anyone enter the tunnel.
