Description:
901 W. Franklin Street Richmond, Virginia build 1888-1892 37º32'56" N, 77º27'7" W This was the last home of Lewis Ginter, completed in 1892. Ginter died in 1897 but his niece, Grace Arents, continued to live there for some years. From 1924 until 1930 the house was the first home of the Richmond Public Library. In 1930 the Richmond School of Social Work and Public Health, which would eventually become Virginia Commonwealth University, purchased the building and it remains part of VCU to this day, presently housing the Provost's Office as well as other university departments. An east wing was added to the house in 1939 and a second wing to the back in 1949.
