Description:
1221 E. Brookland Park Boulevard Richmond, Virginia opened in 1909 37º34'11" N, 77º25'6" W When this building, designed by Charles M. Robinson, was completed in 1909 it was a community school for Highland Park but became part of Richmond Public Schools when Richmond annexed Highland Park in 1914. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 even though the school closed in the 1970s. In the early 1990s the building was converted into Brookland Park Plaza apartments but they went bankrupt and the building deteriorated badly. In 2013 the Community Preservation and Development Corporation bought the building, renovated it, and re-opened it in December 2016. The intention is that this project will spur further redevelopment in Highland Park.
