Richmond, Virginia
(inherited from collection) - Description:
- 1620 Brook Road Richmond, Virginia 37º33'30" N, 77º26'46" W view from southeast From 1907 until the company's demise in 1938 this building served as the maintenance shed for the Richmond and Chesapeake Bay Railway's electric rail cars, serving the short route between Richmond and Ashland. Doors at the north and south ends of the building were large enough for rail cars to pass completely through the building. The building was slightly modified on its eastern side in the 1920s and again in the 1970s, when it was used by Meyer Repair for servicing large trucks. In about 2006 the building was acquired by the owners of Dovetail Construction Company and completely renovated. The result was the first nationally registered historic building to be certified net-energy zero and LEED platinum, environmental construction's highest ranking.
