- 3301 W. Broad Street Richmond, Virginia 37º34'0" N, 77º28'32" W WTVR first went on the air on April 22, 1948. It was the first television station south of Washington, D.C., it was the 16th station in the U.S., and it was the eighth to be granted a broadcast license. It was also the only tv station in Richmond until 1955 and so, perhaps surprisingly, at that time it carried programming from four networks: NBC, CBS, ABC and DuMont. According to Wikipedia, the building (presumably the older portion on the left) was previously a bus garage. If you look closely you'll see that the decorative portion at the top of the older building was carried over to the new addition.
