- Richmond, Virginia 37º32'59" N, 77º28'23" W Cary Street Station is a complex of 10 buildings on four city blocks defined by W. Cary Street, S. Robinson Street, Grayland Avenue, and S. Stafford Avenue. Two of the buildings are new but others date back to the early 20th century. They oldest ones originally served as the hub for the Richmond trolley car system, and later as maintenance and operations facilities for the city's bus system—Greater Richmond Transit Company. GRTC vacated the property in 2010 and sold it to developers who converted the buildings to apartments, restaurants, and retail space. The apartments were completed in 2017 and retail areas this year. It is interesting to note that because the redevelopment utilized historic property tax credits, the industrial environment of the site had to be retained. Thus the number of trees the developer could plant was limited, grass was disallowed, and traditional park benches gave way to concrete slabs for outdoor seating.
