(inherited from collection) - Description:
- 3500 block of W. Cary Street Richmond, Virginia 37º33'19" N, 77º29'16" W Richmond Shopping Center, only a portion of which is shown here, is scattered over a square city block bounded by Ellwood Avenue, and W. Cary, N. Nansemond, and N. Thompson Streets. Built in six stages between 1949 and 1998, most of it is now fast approaching demolition with plans to build a new shopping complex in its place. Pictured on the right is the site of the former Martin's grocery (2010-2017), which was previously a Ukrops grocery. The little building on the left with the white sign on its side was home to Chasen Galleries before they moved a few blocks east. One building in this complex (off camera) which dates to the mid-19th century and thus pre-dates this shopping center by a hundred years, is now a restaurant but is also slated for demolition.
