(inherited from collection) - Description:
- 4010 MacArthur Avenue Richmond, Virgiinia 37º35'20" N, 77º27'29" W The name of this market predates the current owner, who has owned the store for roughly twenty years. The 1930 city directory lists no businesses or homes on this street, which was then called Rappahannock (and which, according to the same city directory, had formerly been called Arlington). In 1931 the right-hand side of this building was presumably 4012, occupied by Frank C. Hutson, grocer. 1932, somewhat inexplicably, lists 4012 as Ginter Park Drug Company and James P. Mills, grocer. In 1933, Ginter Park Confectionery is at 4010 and Rappahannock Grocery is at 4012. Rappahannock Grocery is still at 4012 in 1934, with Ginter Park Pharmacy and U.S. post office sub-station number 12 at 4010. By 1940 Ginter Park Pharmacy had continued to survive the Depression at 4010, but 4012 was now Tom Sing laundry. Tom Sing was still there in 1946, but 4010 was now Electroneering Company, and the street had been renamed MacArthur Avenue. In 1950 4010 was Condrey Radio & Appliance Shop and 4012 was vacant. By 1960 Nuttall's Market was listed at 4010.
