(inherited from collection) - Description:
- 4030 MacArthur Avenue Richmond, Virginia 37º35'23" N, 77º27'30" W Dot's Back Inn was reportedly named for a waitress named Dot, whose career spanned some fifty years. Where that career was, I do not know, but it may have been at a restaurant(s) that preceded Dot's at this address. According to one 2013 source, the restaurant pictured had been here for more than 20 years, thus dating it to at least the early 1990s. This building first appeared in the Richmond city directory in 1940, when the street was named Rappahannock, and the building's street number was 4028. The occupant at that time was High's Ice Cream Plant. A spot-check shows that in 1958 and 1960 Teddy's Grill was located here. A more recent claim to fame is that Dot's Back Inn was featured in 2009 on the Food Network's tv show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Fame has not gone to its head however; the menu is still dominated by inexpensive but tasty dishes. The dining room extension on the front of the bulding was added just a few years ago. Here's a photo taken before the front addition.
