- 2600 Chamberlayne Avenue Richmond, Virginia 37º34'3" N, 77º26'40" W Before there was Interstate Highway 95 (I-95), US Route 1 was the major thoroughfare on the East Coast. This portion of US 1 in Richmond is called Chamberlayne Avenue. In the years following WWII, my spouse's grandparents spent their summers in Maine and winters in Florida, so they very likely passed by, or perhaps stayed in, this motel. Chamberlayne Avenue historically had any number of tourist homes; the coming of this motel contributed to their eventual demise.
