Description:
2308 N. Lombardy Street Richmond, Virginia 37º33'50" N 77º26'50" W "back to back, they faced each other" This scene reminded me of that line from a poem (limerick?) I knew as a child, the poem titled by some as "One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night." I don't know the author, but I did see one reference to the poem being contained in The Silver Treasury of Light Verse , edited by Oscar Williams. I could not verify this in Google Books. There are many variations on the poem; here's one version: Ladies and Gentlemen, Hobos and Tramps, cross- eyed mosquitoes and bow-legged ants, I stand here before you, directly behind you, to tell you a story I know nothing about. Early one morning, late last night, two dead soldiers got up to fight. Back to back, they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. A deaf policeman heard the noise, and came to rescue the two dead boys. If you don't believe this story is true, ask the blind man. He saw it, too.
