(inherited from collection) - Description:
- Fulton Gas Works gasometer 3301 Williamsburg Avenue Richmond, Virginia 37º31'24" N, 77º24'56" W On the same site as this structure, called a gasometer, the Fulton Gas Works once burned coal to produce gas for the city's heating and lighting needs. This particular structure housed a bladder that filled and emptied as the level of gas stored in the bladder rose and fell. A black and white bird, seen in this photo as a blur near the top left, has just left its nest atop the gasometer, but the future of its home is in question, as the city seeks to demolish this rare structure.
