(inherited from collection) - Description:
- 11-13 S. Auburn Avenue Richmond, Virginia 37º33'16" N 77º28'55" W I was looking at Apple Maps when I noticed a "Chamberlayne Cemetery" in Richmond's Carytown area. peoplelegacy.com confirmed Apple Maps gps coordinates: peoplelegacy.com/cemetery/chamberlayne_cemetery-4C4821/ The entry for the cemetery at findagrave.com www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2656564/chamberlayne-cemetery in the "About" section has the following anonymous text: "The Chamberlayne family used this cemetery for several generations. In 1965, the newspaper published an article which told of its use and the condition of the cemetery at that time. It is now an alley and parking lot. The last known burial was around 1899. There were up to twenty (20) individuals buried in the cemetery according to the article. There is no indication that the city ever moved the bodies and graves after 1965." www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2656564/memorial-search lists three burials, including an obituary for Curtis Chamberlayne, who died in the Civil War. I walked around the area but found no cemetery markers or plaques of any kind.
