Arthur Ashe Boulevard Richmond, Virginia 37°34'25" N 77°27'50" W The Arthur Ashe, Jr. Athletic Center, along with the Diamond baseball stadium and Virginia Commonwealth University's Sports Backers stadium, sits on a 67 acre parcel of land. For many years there have been plans, proposals and discussions on replacing the baseball stadium and completely redeveloping the entire area. Stakeholders include the City of Richmond, VCU, Richmond Public Schools, the Richmond Flying Squirrels minor league baseball team, and Virginia Union University. The Arthur Ashe Center, although barely 40 years old, is in poor condition and may be demolished. As you might imagine, there is much legal wrangling. A miniscule portion of the baseball stadium can be seen at far right of this image. Here is an aerial view of the area.
