- Also known as The General Hospital, City Home Hospital, and Alms House Hospital, this structure was built as a poor house for the City of Richmond just a few years before the outbreak of the Civil War. The home was pressed into service as a hospital in June of 1862, and used until December of 1864 when it was returned to the control of city. Capacity around 500. Hospital Street between 2nd and 4th Streets East of Gilpin Court, Shockoe Hill; Richmond VA
