- Black and white photograph showing a view of downtown Richmond, Virginia looking northeast from Byrd Street across the Downtown Expressway. __The donor and photographer was trying to recreate views from a facsimile reprint of "Illustrated Guide to Richmond, The Confederate Capital" from the City Intelligencer of 1862. The images in this collection were rejects from the project.<br />This image is possibly referencing a wood engraving from a drawing by William L. Sheppard in Harper's Weekly (April 6, 1861) showing the Virginia State Armory at the foot of 5th Street near the James River and Kanawha Canal.
