Original Description \(transcribed from book\): Handsome like the other houses on the block, this house has its classical porch obscured by a metal awning. While cloth awnings were common when this street was being built, the aluminum awning permanently hides most of this house. Original Note \(transcribed from book\): 600 Block of North First Street - This is one of the most consistent blocks in Jackson Ward. Built in the last decades of the nineteenth century, this block contains smaller homes than on Leigh or Clay Streets. These are more easily used by modern families than the larger houses on other blocks. Area of Jackson Ward Block: 600 Block North First Street Area of Jackson Ward Full Street: North First Street Type of Building: single-family dwellings Architectural Features: porches; awnings
