Glass plate negative showing a rear view of the White House of the Confederacy at 1201 E. Clay Street (and 12th Street) in Richmond, Virginia; the Classical Revival mansion was designed by Robert Mills in 1818 for Dr. John Brockenbrough, and served as residence and headquarters for Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America from 1861-1865; the house was used to house the Central School (one of the first public schools in Richmond) from 1871-1893; owned by the Confederate Memorial and Literary Society from 1894-2014.
